How to Replace an audi spare key cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky because there are two connector pins and they serve different purposes but the best way to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully functional, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this part, check for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine with no sparks, the three with gazoline jump right out. The fourth one remains shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got zero Ohm. I think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car can start if the G28 is unplugged and runs fine when it is connected however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do, but i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. But i am afraid I may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. Testing them is easy to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that needs to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about fuel injector timing etc. To accomplish this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.

Some of the symptoms of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate gearbox rev counter, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or misfiring when in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. The good news is that they are very cheap and Audi Tt Key Programming easy to find particularly in the case of the Bosch model, which is what ours are. Alternatively, the GM version of this component is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the reason behind many issues with your car. It is an important part of the transmission of your replacement audi key, as it transmits information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the car's engine is spinning. You should detect a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these two points.
