A good robot vacuum can make a huge difference in keeping allergens such as pet hair and dust under control. Not all models are the same.

If you're looking for pet-friendly features in your vacuum or just a great robot to complement your existing cleaner, there are many options.

1. Eufy best robovac for pet hair G30 Edge

The G30 Edge is the newest model in Eufy's line of budget robot vacuum cleaners. It's a sleek black design with rose-gold and blue accents that looks like the design of a smartphone. This model is easier to use than the previous models and comes with features like BoostIQ that automatically boosts suction power for better cleaning of all surfaces. It also uses intelligent navigation to prevent repeating the same spots repeatedly, which is a common issue when using bounce-navigation systems.

It does a great job of picking up pet hair and crumbs from hard floors, but it falls behind the best robot vacuum for hair models when it comes to collecting dust from carpet. In our tests, the G30 Edge missed 74% of the flour on hard floors, and 26 percent on carpets which is a bit disappointing.

One feature that makes the G30 Edge stand out is its ability to map your home using an electronic map that is available in the app. This lets it remember which rooms it has cleaned previously and avoid returning to those areas which is a major problem with other robots that rely on the use of old-fashioned magnetic tape to delineate zones that aren't allowed.

The G30 Edge also has other advantages. It comes with an "Find My Robot" mode that plays loud music until it is found and a directional keyboard that lets you move the robot. It also has an automatic return feature that will send the robot back to its charging station when the battery is running low. This is a safety feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D-Shape a remarkably capable robot with a number of intelligent features. It can clean floors efficiently and climb up carpets with high piles with ease. The app comes with advanced features, such as boundary lines and remote access to the robot as it is in operation and a host of other options.

This model is the latest in the long-running line of Neato robots. It has a distinctive "D shape when seen from above. This design has several benefits such as better corner cleaning and a bigger dust bin than other models. The D-shape design allows the robot to reach under furniture better than those that have a circular design.

The D-Shape will briefly stop before beginning a cleaning cycle to use spinning infrared to look over and evaluate the area. Then, it will begin cleaning in a grid pattern, moving systematically from one area to another until the floor is completely covered. This method is more thorough and efficient than other companies using a random method.

The D-Shape's design permits it to have a large, 700ml dust bin compared to 400-600ml for robots with similar prices. The increased capacity means you will have to empty the dust bin less often, which will save you time and effort. The D-Shape has flat sides at the front that allows it to navigate around obstacles such as tables and chairs. In our tests the D-Shape was stuck under a stool with four legs and an exposed electrical cord however it was able to break free every time.

3. Roomba i3+ EVO

The Roomba EVO i3+ is an excellent option for pet owners. It works well on hard flooring and does an excellent job of removing debris like rice, cereal, and pet hair. It struggles on carpet however it's still better than other robots in this price. The Roomba i3+ EVO is also extremely efficient at moving between floor types and doesn't get hung on transitions like older models do. The dual multi-surface brushes flex and adapt to different flooring types. They also resist tangling pet hair.

The i3+ EVO has a weaker obstacle-avoiding capability than the other robots that we test. It frequently ran into objects like handbags, pet toys, and even shoes before continuing its course. It also had trouble with coarse sea salt, which it was able to blow around instead of picking up.

The i3+ EVO includes a number of great features to make it worth the additional cost over other Roomba models, like self-emptying bins and advanced control via the app. It is possible to schedule cleaning and create custom routines. You can also create zones that block the robot from entering certain areas. Its smart scheduling can even suggest additional cleaning during high allergy times in accordance with your routine. The navigational system is unreliable however, and sometimes vacuums in erratic lines, such as diagonals or zigzags, rather than parallel to walls.

It was extremely clean and maneuvered well in a house which had a mix of low-pile carpeting, bare floors, and a combination of both. The vacuum does an excellent job of picking up pet hair on carpeting. However, it doesn't have as much power as our top choices.

However, the Roborock S4 Max is better built, takes much less time to recharge than the Shark, and provides more scheduling and automation features and support for zones that are not allowed to be used. We'd still recommend the Shark when you're looking to buy something less expensive or in the event that you prefer using your mobile phone for control and monitoring instead of a remote that is specifically designed for it.

5. Bissell SpinWave Dry and Wet

This robot is capable of mopping and vacuuming. Its two-tank system powerfully vacuums or mop at the touch of a button. It easily transitioned between surfaces in our tests and was successful in getting pet hair off of both hardwood floors and carpets. It also includes an edge-sweeping tool to remove cat hair from walls and baseboards.

This is a good option if you're looking for an affordable robot with extra features. It was able to navigate obstacles with ease in our tests and is controlled by an app or voice. It has a huge dust bin for the collection of messes before they're full. The only issue is that it could take up to 166 minutes to complete its work, but that's still better than other robots we've evaluated.

The main feature of this robot is its front-facing camera, which allows you to monitor the cleanliness of your home on live maps in the app. This is particularly useful when you're trying to find a particular item or if your children have spilled glitter from your decorations all over your floor. You can avoid a lot frustration by finding the item you lost immediately. The lithium batteries that do not fade can last for as long as 130 minutes on a single charge.

It got a perfect score of 10 in our test of cereal carpet, and did well in our test of cat litter with just a few stray pieces. It's not as efficient on hardwood floors. Its side brush scatters large cereal bits that cling to the floor instead of being vacuumed. It also had difficulty collecting table salt on unfinished floor, as lots of grains slid across the floor.

It does support app control via the iRobot HOME app, as well as voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant (via an external device, purchased separately). It identifies your cleaning habits and provides you with a personalized schedule. Cliff Detect and a edge-sweeping tool ensure that it is able to get into hard-to-reach places, while Dirt Detect sensors alert the robot to heavily soiled spots.
