Its most impressive feature is, however, its ability to stay clear of obstacles. It takes pictures of objects that it encounters in mapping and determines the location of them in your home so you can train the robot to clean up or avoid them. The app allows you to create maps of your rooms and to determine certain areas you want to keep away from. The j7+ will send you a picture of every obstacle it's encountered, and allow you to mark them as permanent or temporary obstacles to avoid.

In our testing, it was able to overcome a myriad of household obstacles without getting stuck or chewing up shoes and cords like earlier models. It was able to stay clear of pet waste (although it did get caught up in socks and baseball hats). It was also excellent at removing larger spills and crumbs.

The robot can be programmed to mop and vacuum on a regular basis which is great if you prefer mopping for your floors. We tested it in our apartment, which has mostly hardwood floors with a few area rugs, and it did a decent job of cleaning both surfaces. The mops did take a bit longer than we would have liked but the floor was still surprisingly clean.

It can also climb onto flooring with high pile, but it may struggle to get rid of small particles. It also has issues with hairs on this kind of surface however, it's far better than other competitors.

2. iRobot Roomba j9 Combo Plus

The J9 Combo Plus is one of the most advanced Roomba robots. It is compatible with carpets and has the smartest features of iRobot. It can turn on duplicate cleaning passes, and Dirt Detective which searches your home to figure out which rooms are dirtiest and then prioritizes them for cleaning up. It also has a smart self emptying robot vacuum bagless-cleaning station that automatically empty garbage bags and refills the water tank.

The Combo J9's minimalist design blends silver and black. It comes with a single button to launch cleaning work, as well as an indicator for status and wall follow sensors. The app can be used to create a schedule of cleaning for specific rooms and times, view your cleaning history, and even get information about the product. You can also access advanced settings, including the ability to modify the suction power of your device and other options.

iRobot DreameBot

The iRobot DreameBot mopping robot is one of the few smart sweepers that also mop. It uses a 4.2-quart tank in its base to soak its mop pads, and it will frequently return to the base to remove dirt and clean the pad. The DreameBot is also more intelligent than the majority of mopping robots that we tested by using its lidar to map and modify rooms as it goes. Its AI-powered obstacle avoidance function worked well in our test room. It was able to avoid cables and socks without getting confused. It did have some difficulty with a stack of Cheerios however.

The app provides the highest level of control and customization. It lets you create virtual no-go zones and dynamic cleaning zones by rooms or floors. It also offers a surprisingly high amount of suction power, with 4,000Pa, far surpassing the combined 2,000Pa of Roomba 13 and Bissell SpinWave. The battery has a large capacity, with 5200mAH, which gives you plenty of time for cleaning.

In addition it is iRobot OS compatible, meaning it receives updates to its software from the cloud as soon as they become available. The app lets you send images of obstacles that the robot vacuum and mop bagless encounters to iRobot servers to aid in improving its algorithms. iRobot states that it only utilizes images from users who have decided to participate in this user-in-the-loop training, and that the company does not use these images for any other purposes.

The DreameBot's physical controls are limited, with the majority of options being accessible from the iRobot Home app or through Alexa and Google Home. iRobot Pro Q5

The Q5 Pro is part of Roborock's mid-range range and is below the S8 series. The device utilizes PreciSense LiDAR navigation to move around your home efficiently and a DuoRoller brush that scrubs away dried-on stains while cleaning. It also has a larger 770 ml onboard dustbin and automatic emptying docking station to cut down on manual maintenance tasks.

It has 5,500 psi suction power as well as a dual roller brush that can suck up pet hair and dirt out of carpets without getting tangled up. The Roborock app allows it to be controlled via the Roborock app. This app also has other useful features like setting up digital keep-out zones, fast cleaning mode and changing cleaning patterns.
